Frequently Asked Questions

When should I use bleach or Mylights?

To successfully lighten the hair to a clean blonde with a high-lift the hair must be the right level and texture. High-lift blondes are specifically designed to lift hair from a level 6. Coarse textured hair of a level 6 contains more pigment so may result in a warmer tone with less lightening.

Level 5 hair has a red underlying pigment which is too strong for a high-lift blonde to reduce therefore pre-lightening would be advisable.

Healthy hair rejects ash so the more ash added to the colour the better, however adding more pigment to a high-lift blonde can also inhibit the lifting action. This is why with mycolour we only recommend 5 grams of ash series in a 30g mix. High-lift blondes can produce beautiful pastel results on the correct hair, analysis is the key.

I have a client of a level 6 with 75% grey, she wants to achieve a level 8 with no gold and get coverage, how do I do this?

mycolour ash series can be used with the natural series for perfect grey coverage while reducing warmth from lightening. Because the client is over 70% grey we must select one level darker than the desired result.
Formula: 10g 7 + 20g 7.01 + 45g 20 volume crème peroxide.
Process for 45 minutes for perfect coverage.

My client is a level 5 and next time I do her colour she wants to go a bit lighter, maybe to a 6 level. I don't want to bleach her hair as I am afraid it will dry it out to much. What do I do?

Neutral in the mycolour range is the perfect choice for lightening the hair without bleaching.
Formula 1: Select colour of level 6 as desired and apply to the new growth area only.
Formula 2: Mix 1/3 Neutral to desired colour with 20 volume crème peroxide and apply to mid-lengths and ends.
Process for 30 minutes.

I used 5.66 on my hair and after 3 shampoos I am still finding colour in my shampoo lather, my colour is still strong but I am afraid it will fade quickly.

Some of the colours in the mycolour range contain direct dyes that stain the hair shaft as well as intermediate dyes to deposit. 5.66 is one of these colours, it will give intense colour that is longer lasting on even the most porous hair. It is normal to find some pigment lose with each shampoo but this will settle after about 6 washes. The colour should still remain intense and strong for up to 4 weeks.

I have just had my hair coloured by my hairdresser and I love it!! My problem is I am going away to the beach for a couple of weeks and I don't want the sun and swimming to affect my colour, what can I do?

My Vitaliser is a leave in moisturizer with UV protectants. Apply to your hair before sun exposure to keep your hair well nourished and protected. Reapply after swimming and your colour will last longer.
